  • Overview

    The Benefits Coordinator will be a member of the OBHS Benefits Team in the Human Resources department. The position will be responsible for overseeing and administrating various employee benefits, including but not limited to: health and welfare benefits, flexible spending and numerous voluntary benefit plans, active and legacy retirement and 403(b) plans,  as well as knowledgeable on the federal, state and contractual leave of absence entitlements for the OBHS population, disability and workers compensation for OBHS. This position works closely with finance to ensure that invoices and reports are processed accurately and timely.

    Responsibilities

    • Assisting employees with enrollment in all benefits programs administered by Human Resources, such as health & welfare, voluntary insurance and cafeteria 125 plans
    • Ensure that the current 403(b) plan and legacy retirement plans are maintained according to ERISA guidelines and contributions are made within regulatory timeframe.  Respond to employee inquires as needed
    • Conducting presentations and meetings to explain benefits to employees
    • Liaising with insurance and savings providers on behalf of employees and the company to resolve issues
    • Answering questions or concerns from employees about their benefits, including legacy plans
    • Keeping employee benefits records up to date
    • Reconciling and processing monthly vouchers for all the various benefits options
    • Preparing deduction/contribution reports for each payroll and ad-hoc reports as needed.
    • Ensuring that the company's benefits policies complies with laws and regulations
    • Informing employees of any changes to their benefits
    • Coordinating work flow and procedures between Employee Benefits and other departments, especially finance
    • Responsible for the entire LOA process from responding to staff and department head inquiries, determining eligibility of staff and communication of such to staff and respective department head notification as well as processing all appropriate forms for submission for FMLA, NYS PFL and DBL.
    • Assist in the various audits

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Administration or related field.

    Experience:

    • Minimum one (1) year Human Resources experience to include a focus in benefit administration.
    • Prior experience working in a healthcare environment preferred.
    • Prior experience working with labor unions preferred.
    • Prior experience working with payroll and benefits software.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple interests.
    • Team player approach and demeanor with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Competency using a variety of computer software.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. 

    License, Certifications:

    • Professional certificatiion (such as SHRM, CEBS, CMS, GBA) preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
    • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
